Using Silica Waste for Making Concrete with Taguchi Method Approach to Determine Optimum Compressive Strength

PT Swadaya Graha is one of company that used sandblasting process in one of its process. The side product of this process is silica sand waste and classified as hazardous waste. Nowadays, silica sand waste still not be reused and only reinforced by third parties, while the waste produced 2 Tons per month. This research will use silica sand waste as adding material in the making of concrete. The taguchi method is used as the method of selecting the optimum composition to produce high compressive strength. It used Taguchi methode because this methode can reduce the number of the research so that can reduce time and cost, it also can know the effect of compressive strength. As for the factor used are composition factor which consist of 3 materials these are Sand, Silica sand, Cement, FAS (ratio of water to cement), and gravel factor. The result of compressive strength from optimum combination of mixture of sand as much as 0,31 kg, silica sand 0,27 kg and cement 0,42 kg, FAS 0,5, and gravel factor 5-10 mm is 17,50 MPa. Concrete with a compressive strength of 17.50 MPa is classified as a structural concrete so that concrete can be used as a foundation of local cast (footings), foundation walls, and plate above the ground.
